900 परिवारों के लिए आफत बना उत्तराखंड सरकार का एक फैसला राज्य सरकार ने एंबुलैंस सेवा 108 का ठेका दूसरी कंपनी को दे दिया है, जिससे 900 कर्मचारियों और उनके परिवारों पर संकट आ गया है। नैनीताल के ओखलाकांडा ब्लॉक की दुर्गम ग्राम सभा गौनियारों तल्ला में रहने वाली कुशुमा देवी को शनिवार सुबह तीन बजे प्रसव पीड़ा हुई। परिवारवालों ने 108 एंबुलेंस सेवा को फ़ोन लगाने की कोशिश की। नेटवर्क नहीं होने के कारण फ़ोन नहीं लगा, तो उसके परिजन सात किलोमीटर ऊंची चोटी पर पहुंचे और फिर 108 एंबुलेंस को फ़ोन लगाया। लेकिन 108 एंबुलेंस ने सेवा देने में असमर्थता जता दी। फिर ग्रामीणों की मदद से परिजन कुशुमा को डोली में बिठा कर, करीब चार किलोमीटर पैदल चलकर मोटर मार्ग पर लाए और फिर एक टैक्सी में अस्पताल ले जाने लगे। इस दौरान कुशुमा को प्रसव पीड़ा उठी और उसने टैक्सी में ही एक बच्ची को जन्म दिया। अखबार के अंदर के पन्नों में छपनेवाली ये छोटी सी ख़बर बताती है कि पहाड़ों में 108 एंबुलेंस सेवा को लाइफ लाइन क्यों कहा जाता है। यहां 108 एंबुलेंस ने अपनी सेवाएं देने में असमर्थता जता दी। लेकिन दुर्गम पर्वतीय क्षेत्रों में इस सेवा पर बहुत सारी ज़िंदगियां टिकी हुई हैं। इस सेवा के ज़रिये मरीजों को अस्पताल पहुंचाने वाले कर्मचारी कुशुमा जैसी किसी महिला के लिए देवदूत से कम नहीं होते। पहाड़ की घुमावदार सड़कों पर एंबुलेंस दौड़ाने वाले और सेवा से जुड़े अन्य करीब 900 कर्मचारियों के सामने पहाड़ सी चुनौती आ खड़ी हुई है। अब तक जिस कंपनी (जीवीके-ईएमआरआई) के लिए वे इस कार्य को कर रह थे, राज्य सरकार के साथ उनका करार इस वर्ष मार्च महीने में समाप्त हो गया। कैंप- कम्यूनिटी एक्शन थ्रू मोटिवेशन नाम की मध्यप्रदेश की गैर-सरकारी संस्था ये महत्वपूर्ण ज़िम्मा संभालने के लिए तैयार नहीं थी, तो कंपनी अप्रैल महीने में भी अपनी सेवाएं दे रही है। मई से नई कंपनी ये ज़िम्मा संभालेगी। यानी मई महीने में कई कर्मचारियों का रोज़गार छिन जाएगा और वे सड़क पर आ जाएंगे। Courtesy: https://bit.ly/2J6es7X

Visakhapatnam launches women’s police team ‘Shakthi’ to reduce gendered violence The 35 member team has been trained to deal with crimes against women. The move is intended to make the police more accessible for women. In a move to enhance women’s safety in the city, an all-women police team called ‘Shakthi’ was launched on Thursday in Visakhapatnam. The initiative is part of a program called ‘Mahilalaku Cheruvaga’ (Accessible to Women), intended to make the police more accessible to women and make the city safer for them. The program was earlier launched in Vijayawada in December last year, with a Shakthi team of 70 women specially trained to deal with violence against women in the city. The Visakhapatnam Shakthi program was launched by Andhra Pradesh DGP RP Thakur. The team currently has 35 policewomen, including ASIs, Head Constables, Police Constables and Home Guards. The team will work towards preventing and addressing crimes against women, like street sexual harassment, molestation, abduction and kidnapping, workplace harassment, rape, child sexual abuse, dowry-related violence, fraudulent marriages, adultery, and trafficking of women. courtesy: https://bit.ly/2V9CXsa

Sanitary inspectors to drive anti-spitting campaign in Pune; paan shops under scanner A civic official said that the solid waste management department collected Rs 57,880 as fines from 15 ward offices and handed over 288 receipts to the offenders. As part of cleanliness and anti-spitting drive, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on April 25 has directed sanitary inspectors to target paan shops in the city. The solid waste management department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking efforts to clean out the litter and spit smudges in the city. A civic official said that the solid waste management department collected Rs 57,880 as fines from 15 ward offices and handed over 288 receipts to the offenders. The penalty includes spitting, littering in public areas, as well as non-segregating societies. “We launched the drive of penalising paan sellers if their surroundings are littered and spit smudges are found. We have done away with the inspection squads and given the rights of penalising to the sanitary inspectors of the 15 ward officers,” said Dynaneshwar Molak, joint commissioner, solid waste management department, PMC. “We have 126 sanitation inspectors in 15 wards and each has been given a target of conducting or taking 15 actions per day in their respective areas, to make sure that the areas around paan shops are clean. The fine ranges from Rs 150 for spitting on the road, Rs 180 for littering, and Rs 500 for leaving the surroundings with red splotches and waste,” Molak said. Courtesy: https://bit.ly/2DIMJGF

2 trains to Goa to get swanky new coaches Both the Konkan Kanya and the Mandovi express trains came into being more than 20 years ago and ply between Mumbai and Goa daily. The Konkan Kanya Express and the Mandovi Express, two of the busiest trains on the Konkan Railway line, will get new and improved Germandesigned coaches from next month. Railway authorities have decided to replace the existing, older coaches made at the Integrated Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai with Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches from June 10. The new coaches are expected to be more comfortable and safer. A Konkan Railway official said the number of seats in an LHB coach will go up from 72 to 80. Both the Konkan Kanya and the Mandovi express trains came into being more than 20 years ago and ply between Mumbai and Goa daily. The LHB coaches are made of stainless steel and aluminium, making them lighter than ICF coaches. They also have a modular interior with integrated ceiling lights and luggage racks. Pune fails to make the ‘cut’, no water days ahead Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) water department will propose immediate water cuts or alternate day supply in the city considering low Khadakwasla reservoir water levels Water department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will propose immediate water cuts for the city to municipal commissioner Saurabh Rao, as water levels at the Khadakwasla reservoir, which provides water to the city, have reduced drastically. The water department has put forth two options in its proposal - release only 1,100 million litres per day (MLD) of water for the city or provide water supply on alternate days. Senior officers from the PMC said that the meeting to discuss water cuts was scheduled for Tuesday, but Rao postponed the meeting to May 2 (Thursday). 12 children among 28 bonded labourers rescued from Kanchipuram The tip-off to the bonded labourers came from a labourer and his family who had escaped from the employer. The courage of a 55-year-old bonded labourer and his family paved the way for the freedom of 24 more such labourers, including 12 children, from a woodcutting unit in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. According to news reports, Rajendran, his wife Manjula and their two children escaped from the woodcutting unit in February after working there for six years. Rajendran had been given an advance of Rs 6,000 by the owner of the unit Murugan and was asked to work there with his family. After escaping from the unit, Rajendran and his family took shelter at their relative’s house near Mahabalipuram. However, Murugan tracked them down and assaulted them. Members from the left parties in the region then came to the family’s rescue and also alerted the Released Bonded Labourer Association (RBLA).
